On June 26, 2021, after 168 hours of trial operation, Yazhong Jiangxi ±800 kV HVDC transmission project was officially put into operation. NR provides a complete set of core equipment for the project, such as UHV converter valve, protection & control, valve cooling, synchronous condenser secondary system, measurement and fire protection system etc.
Yazhong Jiangxi project starts from Yanyuan County, Sichuan Province, passes through 5 provinces, and ends in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province. The line length is about 1696 km and the transmission capacity is 8000 MW.
The project is a key channel for hydro, wind and solar power transmission in the western and southern Liangshan area. After this project is put into operation, the surging power from the middle reaches of the Yalong River will light up the urban and rural areas along the Poyang Lake. At the same time, the Yazhong Jiangxi project also supports the power transmission of the first batch of units of Baihetan power station and promotes the intensive development and utilization of wind & solar resources in Western Sichuan.
The protection & control system focuses on improving the safety and reliability. The project summarizes the previous implementation and operation experience of UHVDC, and adopts the asynchronous control technology of tap changer for the first time, which reduces the regulation times of tap changer and reduces the risk of on-site accidents. At the same time, considering the diversity of operation modes, the protection & control system of Yazhong Jiangxi project develops the reactive power control function of converter station to adapt to the operation of multi bus section.
In the aspect of converter valve, several key components such as equalizing resistor, radiator and top suspension mechanism of converter valve were upgraded and optimized comprehensively. The test and inspection s were strictly controlled to ensure the engineering quality. In the production and transportation, the new packaging process of converter valve module was developed to ensure the transportation quality. In the project implementation, the test process was comprehensively optimized to improve the quality and efficiency. It has passed the tests of harsh transportation conditions in the depth of Daliang Mountain, 2550 meters above sea level and 9 magnitude earthquake protection.
NR provides Yazhong Jiangxi project with valve cooling system, which is deeply integrated with converter valve and protection & control system. The valve cooling control system and DC protection & control system adopt the same UAPC platform, realizing seamless integration, greatly improving system reliability, and operation & maintenance efficiency.
