On April 20, 2021, with the smooth completion of the rated power operation test, the 150 kV / 60 MVar STATCOM, which is installed in the power transmission network of INDEPENDENT POWER TRANSMISSION OPERATOR S.A. (Greek TSO. Hereinafter referred to as “IPTO”), was officially put into operation.
The STATCOM project is an important supporting project of Crete-Peloponnese interconnection phase I project of IPTO.
The interconnection project will realize the electrical connection between Crete Island and the Greek mainland, and change the isolated grid operation situation of Crete. For the STATCOM project, NR provided the state-of-the-art containerized STATCOM solution, including the overall design, supply, installation and commissioning, and system test for the project.
The continuous and fast response voltage control capability of STATCOM supplied by NR, will provide strong support for the Interconnection between Crete and Peloponnese, making the island power more economical, reliable and environmentally friendly.
Despite facing the significant influence of the COVID-19 pandemic, during the implementation of the project, the project team and partners have overcome many difficulties, actively optimized the technical scheme, and promoted the progress of the inspection, installation and equipment commissioning etc. NR finally completed the STATCOM electrification testing and commissioning in accordance with the timeline.

The FACTS solutions play a key role in improving the power quality of power grid and enhancing the stability of system operation.
NR flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) have been successfully applied in Brazil, Korea, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, India, Mozambique, Ethiopia and other major global markets.
