On August 12, 2020, the magnetically controlled shunt reactor (MCSR) of Inner Mongolia 500 kV Bazhong substation supplied by NR Electric,completed all tests and was officially put into operation. The successful operation of the system further consolidates the leading advantage of NR in the field of MCSR application.
The magnetically controlled shunt reactor (MCSR) can adjust the DC current of the control winding, change the reactance value and reactive capacity of the reactor, so as to realize the continuous regulation of the grid voltage. It has the advantages of high reliability, continuous regulation and fast response speed.
This project is the first application of MCSR in Inner Mongolia power grid. NR closely follows the field demand and provides integrated protection & control solution based on unified software and hardware platform, covering monitoring, communication, excitation, protection and other domains, realizing integrated monitoring and improving the level of overall automation. It is equipped with intelligent excitation system and multi electrical quantity compound control with patented technology. The strategy ensures the safe operation of the system. At the same time, it has the fast response ability of less than 1 second, which is far better than the technical requirements of 3 seconds. It adopts high reliability design and full redundancy design of control unit, excitation regulator, power rectifier and other equipment to ensure the reliable operation of the system.
During the implementation of the project, strict tests were carried out on the primary and secondary equipment, including grid connected impact, winding current rise, self-excitation switching, step response and other tests. The test results all reached the international advanced level, and the indicators were better than expected. The operation results show that the PCS-9578 reactor control system, PCS-9150 sequence control system, PCS-917 protection system, other primary and secondary equipment provided by NR are stable in operation and superior in performance, which are highly recognized by the owner!
The project has been put into operation, providing strong support for the export of abundant wind power energy in Wulatezhong banner, Inner Mongolia, ensuring the safe and stable operation of transmission lines.
UHV magnetically controlled shunt reactor has a good application prospect in the fields of long-distance transmission and renewable energy application. NR has experience in design, supply and operation of magnetic controlled shunt reactor projects in different countries, has formed a complete technical system which can provide complete solutions and integrated services for power grids and enterprises.
