On July 1, 2022, the Baihetan Jiangsu ±800kV HVDC transmission project (hereinafter referred to as "Baijiang project") of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) was completed and put into operation. Clean hydropower from Baihetan Hydropower Station will be delivered to Jiangsu continuously, providing a strong guarantee for the power supply of East China Power Grid during the "peak summer" period.
Relying on Baihetan Hydropower Station, Baijiang project starts from Jianchang converter station in Butuo County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province and ends at Gusu converter station in Changshu City, Jiangsu Province. The total length of the line is 2080 kilometers, with a rated transmission capacity of 8GW. After the project is put into operation, it can deliver more than 300Twh of clean Hydropower to Jiangsu Province every year, reduce coal consumption by 14million tons, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 25 million tons, sulfur dioxide by 250,000 tons, and nitrogen oxide by 220,000 tons.
Baijiang project is the first UHV DC project in the world to adopt hybrid cascaded DC transmission technology, which has many technical challenges and is difficult to tackle.
As the main primary and secondary equipment supplier of Baijiang project, NR provides core equipment including a new generation of Hybrid DC protection & control, converter valve, controllable self-recovery energy dissipation device, measurement, stability control system, AC protection, fire automation system and integrated online monitoring system.Since the establishment of the project, NR project team has worked together to overcome difficulties and technological barriers such as flexible and coordinated control of LCC-HVDC and VSC-HVDC, DC circulating current damping control with multiple VSC converters in parallel, and solved many technical challenges.NR solution has contributed to the successful commission of Baijiang project, and has been highly recognized by SGCC customer.
